Editorial Policy
How we choose restaurants, test recipes, check facts and keep our guides honest.
Last updated November 2026. PlanetBurger exists to help you find a great burger, whether you're eating out or cooking at home. These are the standards behind every city guide, restaurant listing, recipe and gear review on the site.
How we choose restaurants
Restaurants are picked on the burger first: the beef, the cook, the bun and how well the whole thing holds together. We draw on local food coverage, reader suggestions and repeat visits, and we check that each spot is open before it's listed. No restaurant can pay to be included or to rank higher.
How we test recipes
Recipes are written for ordinary home kitchens and standard grocery-store ingredients. Doneness temperatures follow USDA and FDA guidance: 160°F for ground beef and pork, 165°F for ground poultry and 145°F for fish. Calorie counts are estimates and will vary with your brands and portions.
Fact-checking and sources
Addresses, phone numbers and hours come from a restaurant's own website or its current map listing wherever possible. Food-safety and history claims are checked against official or published sources, and where a story is disputed (like who invented the hamburger) we say so rather than pick a side.
Affiliate links and advertising
Some gear links are affiliate links, which means we may earn a small commission if you buy, at no extra cost to you. Commissions never decide what we recommend, and affiliate links are marked as sponsored. Restaurant listings and city rankings contain no paid placements.
Updates and corrections
Restaurants open, close and change their menus all the time. We review city guides regularly and fix errors as soon as we learn about them. If you spot something wrong, like a closed restaurant or outdated hours, tell us through the contact page and we'll check it.
Suggest a spot
Know a burger we've missed? Use the Suggest a Spot page to send it in. Every suggestion gets looked at, and the best ones make it into our guides.
