Char-Grill

Char-Grill has been part of Raleigh since 1959, and the original on Hillsborough Street still works the old way. You write your order on a paper slip, hand it in at the window and wait for your name to be called. Burgers are cooked over charcoal, which gives them a smoky, flame-kissed char.

The Hamburger Steak Sandwich, a thicker chargrilled patty, is the classic order, and the menu also covers round burgers, hot dogs, fries and shakes. There is no indoor seating at this location, so plan to eat outside or take it with you.
