Chris Madrid's is the San Antonio burger joint most locals will send you to first. It opened in Beacon Hill in 1977 as a neighborhood hangout, and it was a 2025 KSAT SA Picks finalist for best burger joint. The Tostada Burger, topped with refried beans, Fritos, onions and cheddar, is the order that defines it.

If you love cheese, the Cheddar Cheezy is the other classic, with cheddar spilling well past the edges of the patty. The setting is casual and lively, with a sports-bar feel, and service moves quickly, so it works for a weeknight dinner or a family meal.
